Meet Joanne! A creative lady behind HeavenSpunCreations

who make a beautiful handspun Crocheted Scarves & Felt Fibre Jewelry with her own yarn and unique blend of colour, amazing right?

So let’s get to know Joanne and her  etsy story, shall we?

1.Tell us a little bit about yourself and your shop?

My shop started off as a handspun scarf shop.  I have crocheted since I was a small girl.  In recent years I began to spin my own yarn in order to get a higher quality product with a unique blend of colour.  I began to crochet scarves, cowls, and hats with my own yarn.

My products got a lot of attention in my local area where I sold at a few local craft fairs.  From there I experimented with felting and fell in love with all things fibre art related.  My most recent exploits have been in carving crochet hooks.

I have always loved the rusting natural look of those cool chunky hand carved crochet hooks.  I finally got  up the nerve to try it out myself.  The first few I put up for sale online sold within a few hours of posting.

I’ve been trying to get a page of hooks up in my shop, but they seem to sell as fast as I can make them.  I’ve been pleased to get good reviews on my hooks as well.  As a long time crocheter, I know what a good hook should feel and work like.  So, I feel I have a great product in these hand carved crochet hooks.

2.How did your etsy story start?

I opened my etsy shop because I feel I have a quality product to sell.  I also have no way to slow down my creative juices from flowing.  I have to do something with everything I make.  Either that or ask my husband to build me a warehouse to store it all in – lol.  I opened my shop in late November last year.

3.What’s the story behind your shop name?

Heaven Spun Creations comes from my handspun yarn products.  I feel my inspiration for yarn colour combinations are little gifts from heaven to spin into beautiful and unique creations.

4.What’s the most important thing you’ve learned as an Etsy seller so far?

So far I have learned to be patient as a first time online seller.  There are a lot of great products out there to compete with.  It takes time to get your shop noticed.  Most importantly I need to remember to keep my focus on making quality items that I love.  My focus needs to remain my love for art and creativity.  Selling these products is a bonus.

5.How are you promoting your etsy shop online social media or blog? How does that work for you?

I have a LOT to learn about promotion.  This has probably been the most difficult part of the process for me.  I’d rather keep tucked away in my studio creating then online promoting.  I did start 2 great etsy teams to help with promotion.  The first team I started is called the Fun and Games Promotion Team.  Recently I started a BNS treasury team called Fun 2B Noticed BNS.  This is a great team that has helped a lot of other new etsy shops gain their first few sales.  It feels good to give back.
