Confession! There is something that I found about the guy wearing his crochet slouchy beanie in the winter; they are more attractive to me. Hi 5 with me if you feel the same..lol….^v^.
I know It’s can be hard to find a good basic crochet men’s beanie free pattern, isn’t it? Me too. I am in the same boat as you.
So I created my own version of a guy’s beanie hat and shared the free pattern with you.
Let’s Meet Oh Boy Slouchy Beanie Hat, this crocheted men’s hat has a slightly slouchy style made with basic crochet stitches, which you have mastered some of those stitches already if you are not new to crochet.
But don’t worry, if you are a less experienced crocheter; you can finish this hat easily.
Simple crochet beanie hat for men pattern.
The oh boy slouchy men’s crochet beanie pattern works up quickly; made from just one crochet rectangle, then join each end to create the tube and sew the top end to close the gap that all you need to do.
Once you are done with the crocheted rectangle, the rest is easy peasy, and I only use 2-4 skeins of yarn use around 700 yards.
Since I wanted to make it for a guy hat, I ditched the feminine colors and went with a rich, chocolatey brown color that would be a good match with any man’s outfit.
Check out the fun photo shoot we did for this tutorial. I wanted you all to see a bit of my city, so we headed out to the train station for some industrial-looking shots.
It was so much fun! I can’t wait to take photos in other places so that I can show you around more.
Here is a close-up look on the lady when wearing this beanie classic and cute, isn’t it?
Are you a newbie to crocheting a hat? Don’t worry, I got you. Here let me break it down into step by step for you.
How to crochet a slouchy beanie for men in 3 easy steps.
With these 3 easy steps, you can crochet and design your own unique men’s hat with different stitches and textures.
- Step 1: crochet a rectangle with your desired length that is enough to cover your head.
- Step 2: join each end of the rectangle to create the tube with your favorite method mine is sewing with a yarn needle.
- Step 3: close the gap at the top end of the tube mine; use a yarn needle also, and you done!
Basically, this oh-boy slouchy beanie is made from a single crochet rectangle. I know that sounds too easy, but it’s true.
I also recommend holding double the yarn while crocheting. That means you’ll need two skeins and be holding the yarn from each skein at the same time. To achieve the bubbly look on the top of the hat.
I started with 80 chains and then added single crochet rows until they wrapped around the head. If you or the guy you’re making it for has a larger head, just add more chains and more rows.
There’s no limit to how long or how wide you need to make it – which is why it’s a great beginner pattern to use for children’s beanies too!
One thing to note is that when you fasten off the hat or finish off, you want to make sure that you leave a really long tail.
That extra yarn is going to be used to stitch it together and close the hole, so make sure you leave enough.
You can also add a pom-pom to the top if you want to, but I didn’t really feel like it for this photo shoot.
I also did crochet in the back loop only for some rows to give a bit of ribbing effect, and I think it gives it a really nice look on the hat.
It’s super easy, though, so even if this is the first crochet pattern you ever try, you’re going to do great!
