And my idea was to crochet a fairytale story custome that featured a shawl and a poncho together a bit of both in one piece.
So this simple crochet cape pattern was born for you guys to enjoy.
This adult cape pattern had a featured tie front to secure the piece.
I also add a touch of cuteness by adding a pom pom to make this capelet even more cuter.

This easy simple cape pattern with hood is made up of just 2 rectangles with a delicate lace crochet stitch called fancy lace stitch that is only a one-row repeat for the entire cape pattern.
You can crocheted this cape in any size from adults to children’s size, they are made by measuring.
And easy to adjust the length of the capelet pattern by adding more rows.
The best yarn for crocheting this capelet pattern.
In this example piece, I use 100 acrylic yarn DK weight/ 3 light for the lightweight of this cape.
You can also pick cotton yarn which will give a beautiful drape and be comfy on your skin or wool yarn which will be great for the cold season.
Both cotton and wool yarn will work just fine for this crochet cape pattern.
If you don’t have DK weight yarn, you can also use 4 medium weight will work great also.

- I used DK weight yarn/3 light any kind of fiber, either cotton or acrylic yarn
- 6 mm crochet hook
- Sewing yarn needle
- stitch marker
Gauge: 2 groups of fancy lace stitch = 4 inch
This crochet cape when I did not add a hooded, it also looks great on its own and can be great for a shawl.

How to crochet a cape with the hooded video tutorial.

Easy crochet cape with hood pattern instruction.
First, we need to measure your shoulders to get the right size, which is in the video tutorial at 2:39 minutes.
The measurement of the cape is around 28 inches for example size small to large.

Pick up a crochet hook size 6mm and Start off by making a slip knot Then make
- 84+2= 86 chains for s to L
- 96+2=98 chain for XL to 2XL
- 124+2=126 chain for 3xL
- (foundation chain multiple of 4+2).
Row 1: Sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: dc across until you are at the last 2stitch make 2dc in each of the last 2 stitches, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: dc across until you are at the last 2stitch make 2dc in each of the last 2 stitches, ch 2, turn.
Row4. make a ruffle base for fancy lace stitch *3dc in the next st , 1dc in the next st* repeat this* to* until the end of the row. ch3 and turn.
Row 5: skip the first stitch and make 2dc,ch2,2dc all in the same of the next stitch, then
* skip 3 and make 2dc, ch2,2dc all in next stitch* repeat * to * across until end of the row, then you will have 2 stitches left sk1 and make 1dc in the last stitch. ch3 and turn.
Row6. now you will make * 2dc,ch2,2dc in the chain space of the previous row* repeat * to * across until the end of the row. at the end make 1dc in ch3 space of the previous row. ch3 and turn.
Repeat row 6 until you get around 12 inches long.
Edging on the cape.
On the last row of the cape. After you got your desired length of the cape then we will crochet the edging on the last row by making 1dc in each stitch and 2dc on chain 2 space.
Now it’s time to add the tie and pom pom to the cape.
After we finished adding the tie and pom pom then we will move on to make the hoodie hat for this pretty cape.

Instruction for the hooded cape.
Pick up a crochet hook size 6mm and Start off by making a slip knot Then make 36+2= 38chains for all sizes (foundation chain multiple of 4+2).
Row 1: Sc across, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: then skip the first stitch and make 2dc,ch2,2dc all in the same of the next stitch, then
* skip 3 and make 2dc, ch2,2dc all in next stitch* repeat * to * across until end of the row, then you will have 2 stitches left sk1 and make 1dc in the last stitch. ch3 and turn.
Row3. now you will make * 2dc,ch2,2dc in the chain space of the previous row* repeat * to * across until the end of the row. at the end make 1dc in ch3 space of the previous row. ch3 and turn.
Repeat row 3 until you get around 27 inches long.
Now Fold them in half and sew the back to create the hoodie.

Then attached the hoodie hat to the cape by sewing using a yarn needle.

All done!

Just confused on the "Row4. make ruffle base for fancy lace stitch" , what exactly is a 'ruffle base' ? I love the way this pattern looks so far though.

Hi Xander What I mean the ruffle base it just a simple row of non lace stitch like sc or dc before u make the ruffle lace stitch.
