With the rainy season here , make every so pretty in colour like the very green grass , fresh air and the smell of the good soil. It’s inspired me to create this beautiful secret garden wide brim crochet sun hat. So I pick up the bright and cheerful yellow colour. For the wide brim I using the blanket stitch, don’t get intermediate by the name of this stitch actually this stitch very easy peasy to do for beginner just make single and double crochet in the same stitch. I first learn it from my favorite crochet blogger Jessica from mamainastitch. She have a very detail tutorial and a video as well. In oder to make wide brim not to floppy just need to crochet the stitch tightly not too loose or use the smaller crochet hook for it , that the trick I often use. Now you know. let get into the pattern shall we?
Let’s get start!
– I used 100% acrylic Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn
– 3.50mm crochet hook or E/4 US hook size
– Sewing yarn needle

What happen to row 21 in this secret garden wide brimmed summer hat? The instruction goes from 20 to 22.
Hi Judy , Thanks you for asking . It’s was a typing mistake sorry about that. Now I have correct it please go back and check it out.
I see above that row 21 was left off, I just saw this pattern two days ago and the one I am looking at still misses row 21.
Hi Sharon, thanks so much for let me know, I just fixed it, please check.
I almost did that I skipped and went into 3rd st which I ch 3 then went into 3 rd st. etc. Mine looks more like a skull cap it isn’t very flarred at the rim. Other than rw 21 I think I followed your instructions. According to your pattern there is only 5 rows of brim the picture looks like more. I am going to have to add several rows beyond the 5 to make it a little more flarred. Any suggestions?
Hi Sharon, you can add more row to the brim as long as you make this stitch tighter so the brim will hold the shape and not to floppy.
What is the size of the hat before the brim? Would like to make a hat for my granddaughter and she is 9. This looks like an adult size. Thanks.
it adult size Susan.
How many skeins of yarn?
Hi Magaret, I use about 1 and a half skein around 350 yard or less.
Could you please include instructions on how to attach the flower.
Hi Caraol , i will do as soon as I finished my new pattern project.
