How to crochet an easy amigurumi doll-Kelly in 3 steps.

Step1. Basic stitch, first, we will start to crochet simple shapes for each piece of a crochet doll, head, body, arm, and leg with basic crochet stitch like single crochet in the amigurumi technique.

Step2. Simple seam, after we finish all the crochet pieces of the amigurumi doll, we will attach them together with a simple seam.

In this free amigurumi doll pattern Kelly, I use acrylic yarn with dk weight or 4 medium weight.

Yarn weight for doll sizes: yep, that’s right, you can pick any yarn weight to crochet your ami doll. For example, if you choose bulky yarn, your crochet doll will come out big and cuddly for the opposite.

if you pick a finger weight yarn, your doll will come out in teeny tiny size.

Acrylic yarn: this is a great option for beginners for crocheting your first amigurumi dolls because they are more flexible and fluff, so you won’t see the gap between each crochet stitch as much as cotton yarn.

Cotton yarn: is also a great option for sensitive skin if you are going to make it for your little one.

Yarn color:

Neutral color for doll skin tone: Pick the yarn color for your doll’s skin tone plays an important part in the overall look of your doll.

For me, in this free crochet doll pattern, I mostly pick the beige color that is perfect for the character of Kelly girl in a frog hat.

Bright color yarn for doll outfits: for any other doll’s clothes and accessories, is always a great statement piece of the doll’s look.

For example, in this pattern, I pick a bright green color for the dress, with contrasting red colors for the edge of the dress and the frog hat to make the doll stand out.

For hair, I would recommend cotton yarn, as I use for Kelly because the cotton yarn will make Kelly’s hair have a good weight and look prettier than acrylic yarn.

When making hair for the doll, the technique I normally use is a small book, or you can use a piece of cardboard to hold the yarn together. It depends on how long of doll hair you want.

For me, my hair doll is approximately 4 inches on each side. Then cut it to one side.

Fold the yarn in half and insert a crochet hook under the head skin and pull through to make the loop. Put the end pieces through the loop and pull it tightened. Repeat to form a horizontal line around the head.

Then use a small book, or you can use a piece of cardboard to hold the yarn together. It depends on how long of doll hair you want.

Then we divided the yarn into many groups and tightened them up. And we sew it onto the top of the doll’s head.

The body color of your choice.

You will work from bottom to top.

We make skirts by crocheting the outside of the body as in the picture demonstration.

Insert crochet hook on round 9. And make a single crochet in each st around the body.

Start at round.9 of the body. Count from bottom to top

Then we count back from round 9,8,7,6,5 of the body because the skirt is going down from round 9.
