Hi guys, I am crocheting one more sea creature to show you today. This crochet seahorse pattern is very quick and easy to make.

And I am so excited to share this tiny baby seahorse applique with you.

This is a stash-buster project that might be the idea for you guys to use up your yarn scraps and the leftover yarn stash to crochet something cute and fun.

Easy crochet seahorse pattern.

You can crocheted this beginner-friendly tiny seahorse applique in less than 15 minutes with the full-step video tutorial.

Let me quickly tell you how I create him. The design of this seahorse had two different tails scroll down to see what they look like.

This tiny ocean sea creature is adapted from my easy crochet duckling applique pattern.

That I just change the pointy tail of the crochet duckling to point downward and add a colorful fin on the side and that is, The lovely seahorse was born.

Let’s get started.

Material for crocheted seahorses.

  • In the example piece I used Lion brand 24/7 cotton it’s 4 medium weight yarn or DK weight yarn will do just fine.
  • You can also use any yarn weight and any crochet hook size according to the yarn label that recommends hook size.
  • In this example piece, I use a 3.50mm crochet hook or 4.0 mm hook size
  • Sewing yarn needle
  • Black felt and craft glue.

American crochet term.

You will need to know how to make.

  • Sl st (slip stitch)
  • sc which means single crochet
  • magic ring
  • dc which means double crochet
  • hdc which means half double crochet
  • ch, Chain
  • slip knot

Crocheted the head.

Start with a magic ring.

Round1.
Make a magic ring or adjustable ring and 5sc in the ring (5 sts)

Round2.
2sc in each st around (10 sts)

Now we are onto the seahorse body.

Round3. 

Chain 13 turn and make 2hdc in the next chain from the hook,  then make a slip stitch in the next 6 chains, 1sc in the next chain, 2hdc in the next chain, 2dc in the next chain, 1dc in the next chain, 1sc in next chain, sl st in next 2stitch. then 1sc in the 2 stitches.

Crocheting the mouth.

Then chain2, sc in the next chain from hook then sc in the next chain, then sl st in next,

Then sc in the next 8 stitches then sl st in the back loop only in the next 6 stitch

Crocheting the spike and wing.

Pick up different colors.

Connecting the yarn at the top of the head of the seahorse.

Then chain2 and make sc in the next chain from hook then sl st in the next stitch. repeat it 3 times.

Then sl st in the next 4 stitches, then in the next stitch make sl st and 1hdc, and 1dc all in the same stitch.

Then 1dc in the next stitch. then make 1 hdc in the next stitch. and finish off.

Start with a magic ring

Round1.

Onto the mouth.

Then chain2, sc in the next chain from hook then sc in the next chain, then sl st in next,

Jane, this is super cute, i love seahorses, infact i have a painting of running sea horses at my home as i have heard that seahorses painting at home brings happiness. I would love to crochet this and will get it framed. Thanks so much for sharing this. Keep posting.
