Lacey crochet summer poncho free pattern with full video tutorial.

Meet the easiest lacey crochet summer poncho pattern ever! Hey, girls, my sweet friends, summer is here. Let’s do a happy dance, yippie!

I just love wearing ponchos because they add an effortless look to a plain outfit.

And summer ponchos are easy to top on any basic tank top or a tee to turn the causal style into something glamorous.

Lacey and lightweight poncho.

Yep, that’s right, this lace poncho is breezy and lightweight from crocheted with a big crochet hook and cotton dk-weight yarn.

Moreover, the cotton yarn just gives a beautiful drape to the poncho, as you can see how flowy it looks from the photo, isn’t it?

Now that purple color happens to be my favorite color right now, do you ever feel like your favorite color changes depending on the mood you have on that day? I do. lol.

Easy crochet summer poncho pattern.

This simple poncho free pattern is made from one rectangle with a beginner lace crochet stitch which is only a one-row repeat.

Basically, they are like a crochet wrap but seam a little bit on top to create the shoulder, and that is, you got a chowarp!

The purple poncho works up really quickly, and it can be done in one weekend.

How do you crochet a summer poncho?

You can crochet a lightweight poncho for summer by using any of your favorite crochet stitches.

And crocheting a poncho for beginner has never been easier than these 3 simple steps.

Step1. pick your favorite crochet stitches: that you like to make into the poncho can be one stitch for the entire poncho, or you can mix it up with 2 or 3 crochet stitches for your poncho, depending on your creative cuteness.

Step2. crochet a rectangle: mostly a poncho has the easiest construction of all the crochet garments.

Basically, they are made from just one or 2 rectangles, so if you can crochet a rectangle, then you can make a poncho; how simple is that?

Step3. join the rectangle: joining the rectangle either one or two rectangles, and you are all set to fly out with your newly made poncho.

Tip& trick to create lacy look ponchos for beginners.

  1. Crochet stitches: pick out some of your favorite crochet lace stitches or open stitches because most of those stitches will make your summer poncho airy and breezy automatic without trying too hard. However, if you go for dense crochet stitch, I still got you covered in the next second tip below.
  2. Stitch tension: to archive the lightweight and flowy look of your summer poncho, the crochet stitch tension is quite important; if your crochet stitch is too tight, your poncho is going to be too stiff and not flowy outcome but try to crochet loosely or if you can’t just switch to bigger crochet hook size that will make it easier.
  3. Check your gauge: be sure to check your gauge if your girls are following the pattern instruction. We all want your poncho to be a perfect fit and beautiful, aren’t we?
  4. Try it on: yep, that’s right, let’s try them long along your process so you can adjust to make it fit for you or add more things to spice up your crochet project.
  5. Take a break: Yeah, take lots of breaks along the way because when you come back, you will feel fresh and crocheted them faster; for example, like me, sometimes I just continue all day crocheting without a break and find out that it slows down the process coz I need a big break like a day or a week, or I might not go back to finish it lol.

best yarn to crocheted a summer poncho?

Well, in this easiest purple crochet poncho-free pattern tutorial,I use 100% cotton yarn with dk weight, or 4 medium weight is fine.

  • Cotton yarn: is perfect for summer garments; they are breathable, absorb less heat, and second skin-like.
  • Plant fiber content yarn: they are also similar to cotton, so if you have in hand go for it.

Hi Jenny, I need some help with your pattern. I have now tried twice to make this poncho and it simply is not working with your instructions. If I chain 117 to start the pattern it is no where close to 20 inches long, it's 37 inches long! So how should I be starting this? I've almost completely finished the poncho, ready to sew together, and it doesn't work at all. One side goes so far down my arm it almost touches my knees, I could never use that arm to do anything if I had the poncho on. So should I only do enough chains on the starting row to ensure I have 20 inches? Regardless of how many actual chains that is? I appreciate your reply as I am now about to pull out all of my work and start for a third time on this project. Thank you,

jane
